About Me

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice, providing individual and couples' counseling and psychotherapy. My treatment specialties include depression, anxiety, coping with stress, grief and bereavement, parenting, and intimacy issues. My office is conveniently located in downtown Palo Alto.

In 2000 I joined the San Jose Marital and Sexuality Center where I received training in treatment of sexual dysfunction and other sexually related problems such as addiction and compulsion.  I later became a co-founder of the Silicon Valley Psychotherapy Center, Inc., where I specialized in the treatment of couples’ intimacy issues, sexuality concerns and compulsions.  I also received two years training in couples’ therapy under Drs. Pearson and Bader of the Couples’ Institute in Menlo Park, Ca.

Additionally I have extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, and stress-related problems.  Most recently I completed a 4-year-certification in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) which is a highly effective modality incorporating aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavior modification, physiology, and psychodynamic therapy, from an attachment based perspective. The gist of this approach is to collaboratively understand the patterns and behaviors that maintain problematic symptoms and self-defeat and actively turn against these. It is more intense and more active than many therapies with the goal of sustained symptom relief, character change, and optimal psychological well-being.

My personal style is warm and reflective but I do confront what I consider maladaptive patterns or behaviors; defenses that keep dysfunctional patterns alive. I am very active in therapy and work collaboratively with you so we can understand the underlying issues together.  While I am an expert on psychological, mental, and physiological processes, you are the expert on you so collaboration is essential. I am transparent with my thoughts and hypotheses and verify or discard these in collaboration with you.  I also very much welcome feedback from you.
